How much love do you give away?

Luke 6:36-38

What do you have that if you give it away, you still keep it but get more back in return?

Love of course.
sharing love
You have a lot of love inside you, if you give it to one person you get love returned from one person and you still have the same amount of love inside. But you have the capacity of loving so many people without losing any of the love you have inside..

Jesus wants us to be loving, merciful and forgiving.  The more we are this way to others the more we will receive in return.
This might seem a bit confusing at first.
Think about it like this:
I have a candle, the flame is my love – I choose to love others.
Each of the children have candles safely in front of them.  I choose to love the first child – has my candle lost any of it’s flame?  No it’s still as bright.
So I am able to choose to love another and another child.  But my candle’s flame never gets less, it still shines as bright as ever.
I still have all my love, but now I have passed that love on to lots of people and they are now shining with my love, they share that love with others and back with me.
We can’t measure this love, we just know it is there by the way people behave towards us.  If we smile at someone – then that person will smile back.  If we are grumpy and snappy people will avoid us.
This reminded me of the song.. ‘Love is something if you give it away, give it away, give it away.. you’ll end up getting more’.  It’s just like a magic penny hold it tight and you won’t have many, lend it, spend it, and you’ll have so many they’ll roll all over the floor.
This song is called the Magic penny1, and has a catchy tune that is very easy to learn.. it has actions as well. Look on You tube there are plenty of examples..
This Love is the love that God gives to us, we can shine with God’s love we can share God’s love.  It’s a love that is immeasurable and never runs out.  It’s a love that understands us, is merciful and forgives us when we do things wrong.  It’s a love that waits for us when we wander off.
It’s a love that never leaves us.
